Installing a Toilet
Do you belong to that species of people who love to do their work with their own hands; be it cooking, cleaning, white-washing your house or installing your toilet? Did the last task on the list startle you? Well, yes! You can actually install your toilet yourself. This is quite simple and easy work, all you require to make out is the basics of doing this.
Installing the toilet will be consisted of two steps; first you need to install the bowl and then the tank. Putting the bowl at the right place will be a bit difficult task as the bowl is usually heavy and it is difficult to keep it at its right position. You need to be careful about placing the bowl to the exact position so that the floor bolts are unswervingly assembled with the gaps in the toilet base. Normally this is made up of porcelain so be extra careful while using it because if it’s cracked then it cannot be used.
You will need certain things for fitting the toilet including; ratchet tug and sockets, changeable wrenches, screwdriver, polish ring, dossier, floor bolts and swelling nuts. It would be better if you collect all these things before starting your work. It will make your work easy and smooth. Make sure that before starting your work your turn off the main water supply.
First thing that you are required to do is set the mounting bolts. Be careful about the closet bolts as they often tip over while placing the toilet. It is advised to place an additional nut on every bolt and make tighter it next to the projection to grasp the bolts in set. The next step will be placing the polish ring on the toilet. The size of wax ring varies according to the size of flange. Always purchase the exact size.
Now you are ready to set the toilet bowl. All you are required to do is straddle the toilet bowl and lift it using your legs. Do not use your back for this purpose. You will require some help at this point as toilets are generally heavy and a single person cannot lift them up so easily. Now fix the toilet carefully on the bolts and sit on it. Set it appropriately by rocking back and forth. Once it is settled, slip a washer over the closet bolts.
Now you need to tighten the nuts. Make tighter the nuts alongside the washer carefully by your hands. Be careful while tightening the nuts, as too much tightening will crack the toilet. Once you are done with this step install the bolt caps.
Now you have successfully placed your bowl, the next thing that is going to be placed now is the tank. Pick up the tank and place it at the right position. Be careful while picking it up and placing it. Porcelain goods tend to be cracked easily. Make sure that the tank bolts go into the correspondent holes of toilet bowl. Tighten all the nuts are you have successfully installed your toilet.
